  From September 1, 1977 to July 20, 2015 United States interests were represented by the United States Interests Section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Havana, and Cuba by the Republic of Cuba Interests Section of the Embassy of Czechoslovakia from 1977 to 1991.

• Following the end of communist rule in Czechoslovakia, Switzerland became the protecting power of Cuba in the United States.

• The United States opened again the diplomatic relations with Cuba on August 14, 2015.
