The design of the archives continues to flux a bit. I've got San Salvador, Tehran and Prestina up as samples of the "look and feel" format I'll try to integrate with the rest of the detachments.
Interesting Ships Store and Archives conversations with our weekly meeting with Bud Carey (Tehran 79) and Anton Koszuth (San Salvador 79). Both were in battle with MSGBn and came away affected by what they experienced and saw. We talked about how vets are feeling military units are keeping PTSD, and other mental health issues out of the main dialog. Both were told "not to say anything" during after action debreifings. The same happens with most of these incidents as the government spins the stories they want.
Years later MSGs are left with damage control needs for the thoughts that push there way up and compete with the othe stresses in life. Self Medication, Deep Depression...and potentially trying to push away end-of-life decisions while trying to "man-up" and deal with it all.
We came up with a thought, a potential tool to help MSGs looking to share their experiences while listening to others working as a group to help keep things in life more manageable. Discussing what's helped, what hasn't, talking about available Government Support Programs (VA, DAV etc).
We could schedula a monthly video meeting just sitting around and talking about it all...No rules, no promises for a quick fix, but a chance to use our USMC brotherhood to work it out. Using ideas from other similar support groups, we could group up "Battle Buddies" to help each other when days go to hell...someone to call and just get us past the crisis, back on our feet and moving forward.
This may take some time to piece together... If there are MSGs out there interested in getting it started, and / or can volunteer to help coordinate. Please email me at jackmcgarry@yahoo.com
